Living by Giving...

This blog was started by Tim and Bonnie Blakeney's friends. The purpose of this site is to help our dear brother and sister in Christ in their time of need. As may of you know, on the afternoon of August 29th, Tim and a student of his, Alex Holbein, were struck by lightning during soccer practice. Sadly, Alex passed away. God graciously spared Tim's life. We all offer praise to God for his mercy.

Tim is a school teacher at Oakbrook Preparatory School in Spartanburg, SC. He and his wife, Bonnie, have a young baby named Todd. For those of you who know this family, you know how dear they are. I believe all of us can truly say that Tim and Bonnie Blakeney are true examples of Christ.

Tim is doing well. He is still incredibly sore. Apparently, lightening strikes cause every muscle in the body to contract causing the whole body to be sore. His phyiscal recovery is very certain, though it will be a few days before he's on his feet. The emotional recovery is going to take a considerable amount of time.

After this horrible incident, we are all asking the Blakeneys and ourselves, "what can we do to help." Well, some friends of Tim and Bonnie have put their heads together and this is what we came up with:
There are some high medical bills that have come out of this. Oakbrook Prep will be helping with some of the medical costs, but there will still be a need, both medical and physical, that we would like to help with. We are asking first an foremost for prayers for Tim and his family. But we are also asking for you to give, no matter how small the amount.

All donations are set up to go through Tim & Bonnie's home church, Missio Dei Church. 100% of donations will go directly to Tim & Bonnie Blakeney. All Donations are tax deductible.

Giving Options:

1. PayPal "Donate" button at the top of this page
This button affords two options. Option 1 is to pay through your own Pay Pal account. Option 2 is to use a credit card and work through Pay Pal's secure online payment form.

2. Checks
Write a check to Missio Dei Church with a note in the MEMO line that reads "Tim Blakeney Family Fund".
Send the check to:

Thanks for putting this together. Would love to be able to see Tim's progress through something like this, since Bonnie will certainly have a full plate. Praise Him for sparing you, Tim! He has a wonderful plan for your life! Praying for a restful & speedy recovery!

Since he was at work when this happened, all his medical bills should be 100% covered by Worker's Comp.

Nancy - this was my first thought when I heard about the fund. However, in talking with our lawyer, he reminded me that workman's comp and even liablity insurance is not always designed to cover "acts of God." While the school is doing the right thing, It is the insurance company that has to write out the checks and they don't always want to play ball. The fund was created to help the Blakeneys get on their feet and to serve as an outlet for those who want to help, but don't know ways in which to do so.

So glad to see this blog available! Updates are good too as I am sure the Blakeneys dont want calls all of the time.

Thank you Tim for your example in giving God Glory.
